The Ultimate Margarita Mix

Ozzie, the wine guy at Nielsen's, gave me his recipe for the ultimate margarita mix.  Once you taste this you will never go back to buying the pre-made stuff.  The juice also freezes really well.  If you are having a big party you can squeeze all the citrus weeks in advance and then freeze it.

OZZIE'S ULITMATE MARGARITA MIX

10 limes
5 lemons
3 grapefruit
2 oranges

simple syrup  (see note below on how to make simple syrup)

Squeeze all citrus into one container.  Add simple syrup to your taste, depending on how tart or sweet you like it.

THE ULTIMATE MARGARITA

1/4 cup margarita mix above
1/4 cup of your favorite tequila
1/8 cup orange liqueur (such as Cointreau, Curacao, Mandarin Napoleon or Triple Sec)

1/2 cup of ice

Combine the above ingredients in a glass and garnish with a thin slice of orange.  Serve immediately.

Maili's Notes:  Simple Syrup is truly SIMPLE to make.  It is 1 part sugar to 1 part hot water. For simple syrup, you just need water hot enough to dissolve the sugar, which means you don't necessarily have to boil it on the stove. I usually heat the water in my electric tea kettle, then pour it over the sugar in a glass measuring cup.

SIMPLE SYRUP

1 cup sugar
1 cup water

Boil water and pour over sugar.  Stir with a wooden spoon until sugar is dissolved.
